Randy Philip, Principal Consultant

Randy Philip brings more than 18 years of professional insurance experience to serving small and mid-sized businesses.  As the founder and owner of Washington Insurance Consulting Group (WICG) in 2006, Mr. Philip continues to provide and deliver high-quality service and products to individuals and employers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. 

 

Prior to launching WICG, Mr. Philip was the Regional Sales Manager for American Medical Security (AMS) for more than 2 years.  He successfully led a team of sales representatives who marketed various group medical and individual health products throughout the Northern Region. 

His previous Sales Manager experience at Humana Health gained him recognition for three years consecutively as “Top Producer” for demonstrating outstanding sale's performance.   Mr. Philip served a 14 year tenure with Humana Health, where he also marketed medical and dental insurance to employer groups regionally. 
He is currently affiliated to several professional organizations including:  The Northern Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce, BNI, Health Underwriters, and SHRM.

Mr. Philip earned a BS in Finance from Hampton University.

Mr. Rawls has worked for more than a decade in the insurance and financial services industry.  After beginning his insurance career with the NYLCare Health Plans and Aetna Healthcare, Mr. Rawls decided his talents were better suited to work with the insurance buying public directly.  His clients included small local businesses, large national businesses, non-profit organizations, government and quasi-government entities as well. 
In addition to providing insurance consulting, Mr. Rawls provides financial advisory and wealth management services to business owners, their employees and individuals.   

Mr. Rawls was called on by the District of Columbia Department of Insurance and Banking to review and revamp their national licensing exam written by Pearson Vue/Promissor.  He also conducted youth money management seminars within local organizations and was featured in media channels such as Black Enterprise. 

Mr. Rawls volunteers his time with The Greater Washington Urban League, The Thursday Network, Northern Virginia Urban League, Mentors Inc., Metro Teen Aids, NOVAM, various churches and non-profit organizations in the Washington Metropolitan Area.

 

 

Mr. Rawls currently holds Life, Health, Property, Casualty and the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) licenses.

 

 

 




Janice Haynes Davis, Principal Consultant

Mrs. Davis has worked in the insurance industry since 1984 and is an expert in ascertaining client goals and meeting budgetary requirements.  As a Life Underwriters Political Involvement Committee (LUPIC) representative, Mrs. Davis keeps her associates apprized of significant changes in national legislation that affects the delivery of healthcare services.  

 

Mrs. Davis helped co-author several pieces of legislation pertaining to the following topics:  Agent and Broker licensing, Continuing Education requirements, Small Group Continuation of Coverage, and Long Term Care Insurance.  She has served several years as the National Committee Person for the Greater Washington Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. 

 

She is a member of the Association of Health Insurance Agents, National Insurance Industry Association, and Professional Insurance Agents Association. She serves on the advisory board of the National Capital Area Chapter of Women Business Owners Association and is currently the board chair of JFA Associates.  As a result of her outstanding service to the community and industry, she was awarded the prestigious Wilner Award.

 

Mrs. Davis earned a BA from Wilson College and an MA from George Washington University. 

 

 

Marlo Zappley, Consultant

Marlo Zappley began her professional insurance career in 2001 with AIG where she specialized in Employee Benefits as a Client Service Representative.  She became a Licensed Product Specialist in 2003 for a Wilmington, Delaware-based insurance brokerage firm, FUSURA, while specializing in Property and Casualty.  After relocating to the DC Metro Area, Ms. Zappley obtained her Life and Health License in 2004 while employed at American Medical Security (AMS) under Mr. Philip’s leadership.  She marketed individual health products to the sales force throughout Maryland, DC, Delaware, and Virginia territory as a MedOne Specialist. 

 

With more than 7 years of industry experience, Ms. Zappley understands the vital role of partnering with vendors and maintaining outstanding client relationship at WICG.  She also has experience with third party administrators, benefit outsourcing, and holds membership with the following organizations:  Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and National Association of African Americans in Human Resources (NAAAHR).

 

Ms. Zappley is the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) alumni and holds a BA in Communications.  Also a MS degree candidate in Human Resource Management, she anticipates to graduate May 17, 2009.
